  • Only 30 families remain of the big nomadic tribes of Dahra in Morocco. A decade-long draught has forced them to settle on the foothills of Atlas Mountains. They struggle not only against the harsh nature, but also against Government indifference; they have no health care, no roads, no schools. The nomads of Dahra have decided not to give up and move to cities. In order to ensure a better future for their children, they have built a small school and call it School of Hope. But the draught continues to threaten their hope. Will they find a solution that will let them preserve their way of life?

Director’s Statement: I have followed the life of the last nomadic tribes of Atlas for more than two years now. The plight of this micro-community is emblematic of some of most challenging contemporary issues of our time, including climate change, urban migration, education and preserving cultural heritage. The issues facing this nomadic tribe in Morocco echo the challenges facing vulnerable communities around the world.
