  • Jenna and Joni, twins in their 30’s living in Helsinki, find out that they have a stepsister, Jóna, living in Iceland. Their first meeting in Reykjavik changes the lives of them all. Jenna becomes pregnant and moves to Iceland. Jóna tries to keep distance from her Finnish siblings but Jenna’s children and Joni’s sickness connects her to the twins. When they recount the events seven years later, they all remember things differently. Through the years, the siblings shape each other. Conservative Jóna quits her job and has an affair. Impulsive Jenna becomes responsible and conciliatory, while after recovering from cancer, Joni learns to love conflicts.

The film is shot over the course of seven years (2014-2020) with a minimal crew.

Director’s Statement: When you become middle-aged, you start to realize that relationships don’t get easier with age. You gain life experience, but also end up repeating your old mistakes. This can be exhausting. Our continuous incompleteness is an endless source of material for drama. Stories are road signs when we stumble with our ways of doing things. Siblings is an attempt to understand our struggle between independence and the need to belong as we determine the concept of a family again.
