  • Diva of Finland is a dark comedy about girl envy. 18-year-old Henna becomes obsessively envious of a new girl in town, Silja. Stalking Silja gives Henna an eye injury and a temporary sight loss in the middle of the dark polar night. All Henna’s future plans are put on hold and every nightmare seems to come true. Henna ends up acting on her fears and creating a mess that hurts others, especially Silja. When her sight is restored, she decides to hide it from the others. From behind her sunglasses she gets a chance to observe the world without anyone knowing. Henna sees things that make her understand the power of her own actions and intentions. Diva of Finland is an unserious film about the serious subject, aimed at young people – both in age and at heart.

Director’s Statement: Diva of Finland is a drama comedy about the painful subject of girl envy. It shines a light on darker sides of being a young woman, while also describing the mentality of northern Finland, which is where I grew up. The film is defined by the effortless, dedicated work of the main cast. I wanted to find actors from the authentic environments of the story, and we were blessed with a unique group of young, new talents. I hope this film finds its audience and encourages them to live bravely.
