  • Being alive and having a life are two different things for Ville Jaaranto. Freedom as his dream and equality on his agenda, he sets to travel across Europe on his power wheelchair. While on his journey, he comes to realise that neither him nor the world around him is quite ready for it. Ville’s budget runs out fast, and the relationships with his assistants become strained as no one really knows why they are on this journey. After all, what is Ville’s dream? To get to Lisbon or to be able to decide about his own life? Wheels of Freedom is a road movie with a comedic touch, a journey through Finland towards Lisbon, as seen in one’s dreams and that doesn’t even exist. Crazy dreams are the best cure for a mundane life.

  • About the Director:
Born in 1978, Aleksi Puranen is a screenwriter and director. He graduated with MA in Film Screenwriting from the University of Salford in 2012. Director's Statement:
When I worked as Ville’s personal assistant, I heard about his crazy dream. At first I was interested in the adventure – when you plan to drive across Europe on a power wheelchair, anything can happen. I’m still impressed by Ville’s attitude towards life, his burning passion for it. Ville doesn’t want to give in to decisions made by others or that he shouldn’t be allowed to experience extreme things like everyone else. Luckily, even the difficult things are accented by Ville’s sense of humor.
